Term 4 Goals

This term for writing my goals are to stay on topic. This means that I have to talk about the topic that I began writing with instead of half way through I go onto a different thing. My other goal is to edit more. I can achieve this by taking my time and going through every sentence making sure that I have stuck to the criteria. My final goal for writing is to stick to the criteria.I can achieve this by reading the criteria first and then going through my work and making it to the best of my ability.  In maths my goals are to take more time and answer my questions without rushing through it and trying to be the first one finished. I can achieve these by looking and the questions more carefully and trying to answer them all right. My last goal for writing is to take my time when doing tests. I can achieve this by looking back through the questions to make sure that I have fully understood it. This will give an effect of getting more questions right. For reading my goal is t...

Week 9 Reflection

Last week we did a lot of maths and the main thing that we focused on was geometry. The easiest thing that thought was locus this is where you draw paths so if it asked you to draw a man swing on the rope and letting go int to the water it would look like thisへ. We also did bearings and true bearings. Bearing are where you have to find it weather it is going North,West,South or East. if and arrow was in between  North and East and it was pointing East and the degree was 32 you would do North32East. This means that your turning North 32 degrees East. In tech arts we started to create our balloon cars this is where we have to create a car that can be pushed by the power of a balloon. In my group there is Johanna,Alice and I. Our car design is a triangle because we all agreed that that was the most aerodynamic thing to do. On Friday we started to construct it Mrs Tyson helped us a lot to stick our triangle together because it is 3D.

Week 7 Reflection

Last week we did a lot of maths. For maths we did to find unknown angles, what we did was we had a shape and it had angles but one was missing and we had to find that missing degrees. Example this is our shape ∆ and the degrees that we have are 80 and 90. The trick to finding the angle is that all triangles add up to the sum of 180 degrees so 90+80=170 so the missing angle is 10 degrees. In tech arts we are starting to make a marble roll this is were we make a track and the marble has to roll down it for exactly 15 seconds and the closest group wins. In my group there is Alice, Justin and I so far we have only cut out the pieces to the track and made the piece that holds it together. There are 2 things that we have to follow you only have limited amount out stuff that you can use to build it and it has to run for exactly 15 seconds. This is a tech arts that is really fun.  Last week we finished our film review our movie that we were doing it on was Wall-e I enjoyed writing...

Week 5 Reflection

Last week we didn't do much because we had people out of class because there were people at sports camp and people at Murray's Bay. I was sadly not involved in any of these things sadly. Instead of going to these things we also did some pretty cool things. For me the most exciting thing that we did all week was doing a reading task. What this was where we got assigned a type of language for example Oxymoron's, Allusions  and a few more then we got split into pairs but we never got to choose. I had Te Wehi and we got assigned Oxymoron's. I thought that it was really hard at first because I had no idea what an oxymoron was but now I understand. We also did a bit of maths we did some learning about 2D shapes and what some different angles were. I learnt that a scalene triangle is where no sides are the same they are all UN equal. We also did robotics the whole time I was stuck on the orchard challenge because it doesn't like me because I got the whole way round but it ...

Week 4 Reflection

Last week we finished off our maths work on area, perimeter and volume. On Friday we had a test to reflect on what we have learnt. The test had questions that we had to convert like meters into centimetres and other ones like that. We also had word problems that we had to solve using our knowledge on area and perimeter. On Monday at assembly I got my bronze badge and I was so excited when I got it I couldn't believe that I was the second year 7 to get it.😀😀 On Friday for tech arts we started to make our bags I got up to sewing the sides with a zigzag stitch. The design that I am doing is three hearts that are different colours, the colours that I am using for my hearts are blue pink and purple the bag is going to be black and the handle is going to be lime green.😄 On Tuesday for tech arts since I had finished my pillow case I got to be creative and make anything I wanted so I decided to make a wallet that was attached with a Velcro lid. Once I did that I decided to make a hear...

Week 3 Reflection

Last week we did a lot of things my favorite thing was robotics because I got to start building a robot. The robot that I was working what we had to do was go through the whole book and build each individual thing. For the whole day I was working on it because I had caught up on all of my work I got up to building the claw so you could pick up things. During tech arts we are finishing off our pillows I have finished mine. I made my pillow for my brother the design that I chose to put on it was a minion the background color is bright orange. and around the border I have done words that represent him in his own way. During maths last week we have been doing Pi and finding the circumference and the area I thought that it was fun.Last week we also did the first aid course this is were a St John member came to our school and talked to us about CPR. Our instructor was Daniel we first talked about some steps that you do if you see someone hurt. We then got split into four groups and went and ...

Week 2 Term 3

Last week Mrs Crowe came back from being sick during last week we caught up on a lot of work but the main thing that we did was perimeter.  The best thing about perimeter is that all you have to do is add up the sides and you have your answer. To find a side of a shape that doesn't have a number what you want to do is add up the opposite side and that answer then becomes the missing number. We also did robotics what we did were some challenges. Once we had completed the challenges we were aloud to build a robot and try to figure out how it worked. I only got a few challenges left before the bell rang. I was stuck on the orchard challenge the whole morning because I discovered that you can be a few metres away from hitting anything but you end up hitting it anyway IT SUCKS.

Week 1 Term 3

Last week we had Mr McCabe as our teacher because Mrs Crowe was away sick. During that week we did a few things the main thing that we did was maths. We did a maths test this involved geometry the type of things that we did were finding the perimeter and the area. The hardest thing that I found to do was the pie and finding the area and the circumference. The first time I did the test I only got 10 correct but the second time I did it I got 20 correct. We also did our SLC this is our student lead conference I have finished mine but the hardest thing to write about was the writing because I have the same problem every time I write and that is to stay on topic every time I write I always end up talking about something random.

Week 9 Reflection

During week 9 we didn't do as many things because the production people were out all week for rehearsal but we still did a bit of work. My favourite part about it was robotics because I got to go on the tablet and I finished Ruins of Atlantis this game is where you have to program a robot to get to the designated path. That was hard at first but I figured out a pattern and that made it a whole lot easier.  During maths we did ratios when we first started to do ratio I knew it was going to be hard but I realized once the teacher told me that it was almost the same as fractions it just made me understand even more because I know a lot more about fractions than I used to and can know understand them. When we were doing ratio there was a question that went like this there are 14 girls and 9 boys in a classroom what is the ratio against girls to boys what you need to do is put the 14 at the start of the ratio because there are 14 girls in the classroom then you put the 9 after the rat...

Week 8 Reflection

Last week was the best we did robotics, maths, and a lot of other things. My favorite was maths because we got to do adding and subtracting fractions. When I first heard the teacher say that I was so scared that I wouldn't get it but once she had explained it and did a few examples I finally understood what he was meaning after that I finally got it. If the question asks you to add 2¼ plus 1¼ the first thing you would do is plus the 2 and the 1 then you would work out what ¼ plus ¼ equals which you should know equals a half of two quarters so your answer would be 3½.  In robotics we watched some videos about the new equipment that we are getting and how to program it. Once we had done that we had to do a test about it to see how much we knew and had listened my test results came out as 60% the highest that you could score was 100%. Then once we had done all that we got to play a game on the tablets, this game was called Expedition Atlantis what we had to do was. To figure out the...

Week 6 Reflection

Last week we did a lot of things but my favourite thing was hard materials. On Tuesday I finally finished soldering my led to my letter and made sure they all go. My next step is to make my holder so my letter can sit on something. My holder is going to be circular on the edges.  We also did some maths this time we started on fractions and how to convert them into decimals. At first I thought it was going to be really hard but when Mrs Crowe explained it I got it and found it a bit easier to work out.  In reading we did a characterizing sheet where we had to pick a character from the story that we read and ride down all the different sides our character had. My pick was Miss Ralston. Once we had picked our character we then had to write a few of her sides and write evidence that explains how you know that she has that side to her. We also did some apostrophe work. This is where we had a worksheet to do and we had to add in the apostrophes in the correct places. For the work we...

Week 4 Reflection

Last week we did a few things. Maths: we did  a test on algebra, decimals and fractions. For decimals we had to find what was shaded in and then circle the correct one in decimal form, we also had to order decimals for smallest to largest. For fractions we had to simplify and read the question and write the answer in fraction form. To simplify them we had to write down what the smallest fraction you could make it. For algebra we had to find the pattern and write it in algebra form, and find the next pattern using what our knowledge of the pattern was. Robotics: we had to do our tracks again and do the same stuff as last week but this week we were aloud to build ramps that were made out od coloured plastic. The group that I was in didn't get round the whole track in time to build a ramp. Reading: for reading our group did a character task were we had to read a piece of writing and write down what the types of characters there were and also write in evidence so the teacher knows ...

Week 3 Reflection

Last week was probably the best week of the year because we did a lot of things that I really enjoyed such as math, reading and robotics. In maths we learnt how to solve equations using backtracking, after the first lesson I was puzzled had no idea what to do but the next day when we came back down to learn it more I finally understood and it felt good to know something that I didn't know before. In reading my group did some comprehension sheets our first one was about a poem and our second one was about something real. In our questions for the first test I only got one wrong but I know where I went wrong. In the real life one I got two wrong with the first one I knew where I went wrong but on the second one I know what I did wrong as well and it was a stupid mistake. For robotics we got together in a pair again and built our tracks but this time with different wood and a different speed. My buddy was Emily we worked together on building up our speed so that it could go around the tr...

Week 2 Reflection

Last week in we did robotics and it was really fun we got together in pairs and we made a track for our sphero's to drive in incase you don't know what sphero's are they are little circular robots. So everyone enjoyed it and you had to make a program that made your sphero go around the whole track without touching anything. Last week we also did some writing we did argument writing about weather every school in New Zealand should have a school uniform or every school in New Zealand should have the same uniform. My choice in picking was agreeing with every school in New Zealand should have a school uniform because i liked that topic nut my main reason is that when I thought about it I had more to write about it than the other topics. We did some inquiry in inquiry we are doing the holocaust what we have to do is pick an activity and my activity is a child. For my activity I have to read the story and answer some questions and do a visual presentation of what my child is...

Term 2 Goals and Week 1 Reflection

Term 2 Goals This term my goals are to get another band because by the end of the year I would like to be able to have my bronze badge. This term I would also like to achieve a better result in my maths and a better attitude to learning. What I really want to achieve is a high standard in my work as for now it is average and I think that I can make a big improvement and when I do I will try to keep those improvement's up until the end of the year. My biggest goal this term is to get my work finished and handed in on time. Term 2 Week 1 Reflection Last week we did a lot of work but mainly maths. In maths we learnt how to find the pattern in algebra. Our steps to finding it were simple first you find out what the difference is in between each number then for example if the number were 1 3 5 7 the difference would be to 2 so then you would find the second part of the rule by going 1-2 that would be -1 so your rule is ×2-1 but to write the rule properly you would write 2n-1.Then ou...

Term 1 Reflection

Through out the term we have done a lot of things and some of the things that I did were Summer games, Winter games and swimming sports. We have also done  inter class competitions such as Softball and Danish rounders. Danish rounders was my favorite because when you run to first base you don't get out the other reason I like it is because they have a paddle bat instead of a baseball bat like softball. Some of my goals that I have achieved are trying my best in reading and understanding BEDMAS. In maths we have also learnt multiplication division addition and subtraction algorithms at first I knew how to do the addition and subtraction but when we did division and multiplication algorithms I  realized how to do them again. In maths we also learnt Factors, Prime numbers, LCM and HCM. These stand for lowest common multiple and highest common multiple. There are also things called LCF and HCF. These stand form highest common factor and lowest common factor. The bit of the term tha...

Camp at Wellington

For the past week we have been away on camp at Wellington. We stayed at the top 10 holiday park, there were a lot of activities to do there like the jumping pillow, trampoline and even a playground. The only down part about where we were staying is that the rooms were really crowded, but I'm glad that I was in a room with all my best friends.  Wellington zoo had a lot of animals that I had never seen before in real life like the sun bear, he was really cool because he had a black body with a white nose. There were also Chimpanzees they were funny, while we were there they had a talk about them and we got to watch them get feed. I learnt that the baby have white fur on there buts and if you make a baby cry the rest of the Chimpanzees will hate you. While you are a baby you can get away with anything you want sometimes the baby's at night will jump up onto the other chimpanzees and give them a big fright.  Snorkeling was my favorite. While we were snorkeling I learnt that there...

Week 6 and 7 Blog

Over the past few weeks we have learnt about prime numbers and common factors. Prime numbers are numbers that can only be multiplied once. There is only one prime number that is even and that number is two, the rest of the prime numbers are odd. Common factors they are multiples that are common throughout those two multiples. There are also lowest common multiples and highest common multiples. Lowest common multiples are if you have two numbers you have to write down the first two multiples that appear in both sets of numbers. Last week we learnt were to put commas. If you had a Awubis word you would but the comma by  the bit that you think is extra information.  In maths we have also learnt BEDMAS it stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. I also learnt ho to convert powers into natural equations. I did that by well for example if I wanted to convert  3⁴ + 2¹=. First of all you would have to use your calculator and find out wh...

Term 1 Week 5 Reflection

Last week was the best week ever because we had lots of things to do like swimming sports and the last of our tests. Swimming sports was the best thing ever because it wasn't a competition it was just fun like there was a running race and a doggy paddle race and all sorts. We had our other softball competition and we won against room 16. Last week it was also boating and it is when you get into the water and learn about how to survive. Last week we also learnt what an independent clause was and a dependent clause a independent clause is where it is a complete sentence and a dependant clause is where it is not a sentence. At the swimming sports there were the championship races and the non champ races in the champ races Te Wihi broke three records for the breaststroke, freestyle and the butterfly. Also we did maths and we did estimation I think that estimation is the hardest when it comes to decimal points because I didn't know where to put them but now I do and it made my life ...

Week 4 Reflection

Last week was really hard because there were a lot of tests and it was hard to keep up with them because some of them were harder than others and some of them you didn't get a lot of time for because the y were easier than others. Also what i found hard was the maths because at first I didn't understand how to do it because I got confused were the decimal dot was meant to be. The rounding in maths was fun because I understood it as soon as she explained it to me and I also like to do rounding because you don't have to use the real number. In reading I am reading on e library it is easy because there are so many books to choose from and the books on e library are some times not in the school library. Last week we had the final of danish rounders and we got second. The score was 2-0 but though we lost I had a lot of fun. In tech arts we learnt to play another tune on the keyboard and on the ukulele that was fun the ukulele is really hard because if you are not use to it hurts ...

Week 3 Reflection 2017

Week 3 this week has been awesome I have been foyer monitor and a school photo runner. I have been a great messenger going to all the classes when I first delivered a message to room 9 I had no idea were to go because the class wasn't named but with help of my friend I soon found my way around the school classes. We have mostly been doing tests witch has been awesome. The hardest one yet was the Asttle writing because the subject that we had to write about was complicated because, I like Music and Sport it was really hard to choose what to argue about but I finally made up my mind and the one that I went with was Sport is more important than music. What i am finding hard about Intermediate is that I want to do so many things but I am limited. Such as every time I want to go for a swim at lunch I have Danish Rounders, its fine but my best friends aren't in my team so it doesn't make it as fun. Thanks for reading my writing Ayrin.

Start of Year Reflections

The start of the  year has been great but there are somethings that I found different than primary like how long the lunch times go. They go an extra half and hour because at primary you only got 15 minutes for morning tea and 30 minutes for lunch. The other things that I have found odd were the assembly's they are a lot different than school because they hand out principal awards to lots of people instead of just 1 if your lucky 2. The things that I found hard were keeping up with all the newsletters and trying to get them handed back in time so I didn't get in trouble. I have been sending bus tags out to different classes and I have been able to met loads of teachers that are really nice.Whats also different for my other school is having different classes to go to and it's hard to remember were to go for the right lessons. My favourite thing to do is Tech arts because I like learning the keyboard and what different types of music there are and how to play different notes ...

First Blog of 2017

Hi my name is Ayrin i am very passionate about a lot of things like sports such as Netball, Badminton, athletics and a lot more. I love animals especially cats and dogs, I have 2 dogs  1 cat also 1 blue tongue lizard that we found in our garden when we first moved into our new house. Since i have moved to my new house and started a new school I realize now that when you try new things a lot of great things can happen. I love doing homework because every time it gets harder and harder, by having it get harder and harder each time your brain starts to stretch and you develop new things that you never even thought to think of. As I started school as a year 1 it just got harder as each year passed. Thank you for reading my fantastic blog. Ayrin
